Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made it clear on “Meet the Press” that the United States isn’t funding the war in Ukraine. He stressed that the U.S. is actually helping to defend democracy in the region.
When asked by NBC host Kristen Welker about the duration of American support for Ukraine’s war effort, Zelensky highlighted that Ukraine is doing the bulk of the fighting, with the U.S. providing necessary ammunition.
Zelensky emphasized, “The Americans are not funding the war in Ukraine. They foremost protect freedom and democracy all over Europe. And Ukraine is fighting. And Ukraine is sending their best sons and daughters to the front line.”
He underscored the importance of Ukraine’s role in safeguarding Europe and NATO countries, mentioning that U.S. troops no longer have to engage in direct combat to protect NATO nations because Ukrainians are taking on that responsibility.
Zelensky stressed that the aid provided by the civilized world, including the U.S., is crucial for Ukraine’s defense efforts.
The House recently passed a substantial foreign aid package, allocating funds for Ukraine, Israel, and global humanitarian aid, among other purposes. Zelensky urged the Senate to swiftly approve the aid package, emphasizing the urgent need for tangible assistance for Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines.
He emphasized the importance of timely support, stating, “And today, we definitely need this aid. And Kristen, we really need to get this to the final point. We need to get it approved by the Senate.
And then we want to get things as fast as possible so that we get some tangible assistance for the soldiers on the front as soon as possible, not in another six months, so that they will be able to move ahead.”
