Steve Bannon, former President Trump’s 2016 campaign executive, lashed out at House Republicans on Monday, accusing them of wanting to see Trump’s 2024 White House bid fail and claiming they are not genuinely supporting him.
Bannon questioned why House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan has not launched a criminal conspiracy investigation into the Justice Department’s handling of cases against Trump, such as the ones in Georgia and New York City.
He also criticized the lack of action from Republican leaders, saying, “Why have hearings not gone on? Why have they not broken these things up? You know why. Because they don’t really have Trump’s back.”
Bannon accused Jordan of only providing “performative” support to Trump, saying his actions have been limited to tweeting and appearing on TV shows like “Hannity.” Bannon asserted that nothing concrete is being done to support Trump, emphasizing, “Nothing’s happening to support President Trump.
Let me repeat that: nothing.” His comments come despite growing dissatisfaction with Republican leadership, with some lawmakers backing calls to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who is leading the motion to vacate the speakership, joined Bannon on his podcast to discuss Johnson’s declining popularity among Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) supporters.
This follows the approval of a foreign aid bill that includes support for Ukraine, which has sparked anger among some Republicans. Greene stated, “[Johnson] betrayed everyone, betrayed the entire Republican party, betrayed Republican voters, betrayed the Republican conference. And voters are so angry this time.” Bannon echoed her calls, saying, “Johnson’s got to go.”
