On Sunday, a Los Angeles resident, Ephraim Matthew Hunter, 29, was apprehended by law enforcement after breaking into the official residence of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, known as the Getty House, while individuals were present inside.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Hunter smashed a window at approximately 6:40 a.m. to gain entry into the residence located on Irving Boulevard.
Upon responding to the incident, police took Hunter into custody without any altercation. He was subsequently booked on charges of burglary. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the alleged break-in, as confirmed by Mayor Bass’s office and the police department.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mayor Bass‘s office expressed gratitude to the LAPD for their prompt response and arrest of the suspect, stating, “This morning at approximately 6:40 a.m., an intruder broke into Getty House through a window. Mayor Bass and her family were not injured and are safe.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and law enforcement authorities have declined to provide further details regarding a potential motive behind the break-in.
Mayor Bass made history in 2022 by becoming the first female mayor of Los Angeles, following her tenure of over a decade in the U.S. House of Representatives.
