President Biden took a swipe at former President Trump during his visit to Florida, mocking Trump’s promotion of “God Bless the USA” Bibles last month and criticizing his abortion record.
Biden, speaking to the crowd, attributed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and subsequent state-level abortion restrictions to Trump’s influence.
Referring to Trump’s description of the Dobbs decision as a miracle, Biden jokingly suggested it might have been inspired by the Bible Trump was trying to sell. He quipped about his curiosity to see what the Bible contained, drawing laughter from the audience.
Biden then shifted to a more serious tone, characterizing the overturning of Roe v. Wade as a political maneuver orchestrated by Trump to appease his evangelical base in exchange for their support on judicial appointments.
In March, Trump had promoted the “God Bless the USA” Bibles ahead of Easter, urging supporters to purchase them to “make America pray again.”
Although Trump was not directly involved in selling the Bibles, he received royalties from their sales. The move drew criticism from some conservatives who felt it commercialized a sacred religious text, particularly during Holy Week.
Biden’s remarks underscored his commitment to defending reproductive rights and his willingness to challenge Trump’s actions, both in policy and rhetoric.
By highlighting Trump’s association with the Bibles and tying it to broader criticisms of his moral and character flaws, Biden sought to contrast his own approach with that of his predecessor.
