The Biden campaign is making a strategic move to target disaffected Republicans who voted for former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley in Pennsylvania’s GOP primary. Despite Haley dropping out of the race, she garnered important support, with more than 150,000 votes, or over 16 percent of the total.
With former President Trump dominating the primary with over 80 percent of the vote, the Biden campaign aims to capitalize on the sizable portion of Pennsylvania Republicans who opted for an alternative to Trump.
Their latest effort involves a 30-second ad titled “If you voted for Nikki Haley…” which highlights Trump’s disparaging remarks about Haley and her supporters.
The ad features clips of Trump insulting Haley, calling her names like “bird brain” and criticizing her temperament and qualifications. By highlighting Trump’s derogatory comments, the Biden campaign seeks to attract voters who may be disillusioned with the former president’s behavior and rhetoric.
This targeted approach is part of the Biden campaign’s broader strategy to appeal to moderate and independent voters, particularly in suburban areas where Haley performed well against Trump.
The ad will run on various digital platforms and focus on battleground states, including Pennsylvania, where Haley’s support could make a difference.
Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler emphasized the contrast between Biden’s “Scranton values” and Trump’s “Mar-a-Lago values,” positioning Biden as the more relatable and inclusive candidate.
The campaign aims to capitalize on the perception that Trump is divisive and out of touch with the concerns of everyday Americans.
Since Haley exited the race, the Biden campaign has been actively reaching out to her supporters, framing Biden as a more appealing alternative to Trump. By highlighting Trump’s dismissive attitude towards Haley and her voters, the campaign hopes to sway undecided Republicans and independent voters towards Biden’s camp.
