Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vehemently opposed the recent changes to Title IX announced by the Biden administration, declaring that the state “will not comply” with these alterations.
In a video shared on the social platform X, DeSantis stated, “Florida rejects [President Biden’s] attempt to rewrite Title IX,” emphasizing his determination to resist and push back against the changes.
DeSantis continued by asserting that Florida will not allow President Biden to introduce policies that would permit the inclusion of men in women’s activities.
He also expressed concern about Biden’s alleged infringement on parental rights and his misuse of constitutional authority to impose such policies on Florida.
The Biden administration’s updated regulations to Title IX aim to extend protections to transgender students, ensuring their rights under federal law against sex-based discrimination. These changes are set to take effect in early August.
Education Secretary Miguel Cardona emphasized the importance of these regulations, stating that they uphold the legacy of Title IX by promoting safe and inclusive educational environments for all students.
DeSantis has faced criticism from LGBTQ advocates for his support of state laws perceived to be harmful to the LGBTQ community, including the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” law, which places restrictions on discussions of LGBTQ topics in Florida public schools.
