Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disclosed that the United States and Ukraine are in the process of negotiating a bilateral security agreement. This agreement is anticipated to span a decade and would involve increased monetary aid to Ukraine. Zelensky expressed his gratitude to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other congressmen for their support in passing a significant aid package, a portion of which is earmarked for Ukraine, totaling $61 billion out of a broader $95 billion foreign aid package.
During his conversation with Jeffries, Zelensky emphasized the necessity of Patriot missile systems for Ukraine’s defense. This plea underscores Zelensky’s repeated requests for additional American-made Patriot missile systems, as Ukraine currently possesses only three, one from the U.S. and two reportedly from Germany. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the forthcoming provision of more Patriot systems to Ukraine as part of an extra $6 billion foreign aid package.

Zelensky revealed that negotiations for the bilateral security agreement are underway, with teams from both Ukraine and the United States collaborating on drafting the text.
The objective is to create a robust agreement encompassing various aspects of security and cooperation, including armed support, financial aid, political collaboration, and joint arms production. Zelensky emphasized the aspiration for this agreement to reflect strong American leadership and gratitude for the progress made by both teams in formulating the agreement.
In addition to the recent approval of $61 billion in foreign aid by the United States, United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pledged an extra £500 million in foreign aid to Ukraine. These commitments underscore international support for Ukraine amidst ongoing security challenges. The combined efforts of the U.S., the U.K., and other allies signify a collective determination to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities and provide substantial aid to address its pressing needs.
