Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) criticized the U.S. Supreme Court for what he perceived as partisan behavior, suggesting that it should relocate to the Republican National Committee (RNC) headquarters due to the conservative justices’ handling of arguments regarding former President Trump’s immunity from prosecution.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” Raskin expressed frustration with the justices, characterizing them as acting like “partisan operatives” rather than impartial arbiters of the law. He specifically took issue with Justice Samuel Alito’s remarks suggesting that prosecuting Trump could incite further violence.

Raskin condemned Alito’s suggestion that holding Trump accountable for potential crimes could lead to more violent coups, describing it as capitulation to Trump’s authoritarianism.

He argued that no one, including the president, should be above the law, and criticized the justices for entertaining arguments that appeared to prioritize political considerations over legal principles.

The Maryland lawmaker, who is part of the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol, emphasized the importance of holding presidents accountable for their actions, regardless of their political affiliations.

He characterized the justices’ questioning as indicative of corruption within the judiciary, echoing sentiments often directed at members of Congress.

Raskin’s remarks reflect broader concerns about the politicization of the Supreme Court and the potential impact on its perceived legitimacy as an independent branch of government. As debates over presidential immunity and accountability continue, the role of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law remains a contentious issue.
