A recent Emerson College/The Hill swing state poll released on Tuesday shows Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey (D) leading his Republican challenger David McCormick by a narrow margin, six months out from Election Day.
According to the poll, 46% of Pennsylvania voters support Casey, while 42% back McCormick, with 12% remaining undecided. This gap has remained consistent since the last Emerson College/The Hill poll in March, which showed Casey leading 45% to 41%, with 14% undecided.
The Cook Political Report rates the race as “lean Democratic,” indicating a slight advantage for Casey. However, the presidential race in Pennsylvania is much closer, with a separate Emerson College/The Hill poll showing former President Trump leading President Biden 47% to 45%, within the margin of error. Eight percent of voters remain undecided.
Pennsylvania is a crucial swing state, having been flipped by Trump in 2016 and won back by Biden in 2020, both times by very narrow margins. The state’s political landscape is closely watched by both parties, and this poll suggests that the Senate race is likely to be highly competitive.
The Emerson College/The Hill poll was conducted among 1,000 registered Pennsylvania voters from April 25-29 and has a credibility interval of plus or minus 3 percentage points. This means that the results are accurate to within 3 percentage points, giving a clear indication of the state of the race at this point in time.
The poll suggests that both the Senate and presidential races in Pennsylvania are likely to be highly competitive, with voters closely divided between the two parties. This sets the stage for a intense campaign season in the Keystone State, with both sides likely to invest resources in an effort to win over voters.
