The attorney representing an anonymous Jewish Columbia University student, who is suing the institution for allegedly failing to provide a safe learning environment, has revealed that his client is facing calls for genocide while attending school.
Jay Edelson, the attorney, emphasized that while debate on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is acceptable, the current situation at Columbia University has crossed a dangerous line.
According to the lawsuit, since the pro-Palestinian encampment was established two weeks ago, Jewish students have been subjected to increased harassment and intimidation, including physical assaults, verbal abuse, and hate speech.
The encampment has become a hub for round-the-clock harassment, with Jewish students being punched, shoved, spat upon, and blocked from attending classes or moving freely on campus.
The lawsuit also alleges that pro-terrorist hate speech has been openly displayed on campus, with banners and signs featuring slogans such as “Death to the Jews,” “Long live Hamas,” and “Globalize the Intifada.”
The university’s response to the situation, allowing students to attend classes online for the remainder of the school year, has been deemed unacceptable by the plaintiff.
Edelson emphasized that negotiating with student protesters is “insane” and that this lawsuit is a necessary step to fight back for Jewish students’ rights. He stressed that the current situation is unacceptable and that legal action is necessary to prevent further harm. “We’re not going to sit by the sidelines.
This is not going to happen again,” he said, referencing the dark history of Jewish persecution. The lawsuit seeks to hold the university accountable for providing a safe educational environment for all students, regardless of their background or beliefs.
