Jeff Bezos, with a net worth of $199.6 billion, has once again claimed the title of the second-wealthiest person globally, surpassing Elon Musk, whose net worth stands at $197.4 billion. This marks the second shift in their rankings this week, highlighting their ongoing battle for wealth supremacy.
The latest switch occurred after Bezos lost his position as the wealthiest person in the U.S. to Musk earlier in the week, following a surge in Tesla stock that significantly boosted Musk’s fortune by approximately $25 billion in just six days.
Bezos’ net worth saw a $2.5 billion increase on Thursday, while Musk’s wealth decreased by about $276 million, according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaire List. However, the top spot is still held by Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH, with an estimated net worth of $206.9 billion.
Amazon’s stock saw a 1.84% increase on Thursday, contrasting with Tesla’s modest 0.08% rise in share price, indicating differing market performances between the two companies.
Bezos and Musk have been engaged in a tug-of-war for the second-richest person title for several months, exchanging positions at least 13 times in March alone. Musk had previously maintained a consistent presence in the top two spots on the billionaire rankings, but a resurgence in Bezos’ wealth earlier this year, coupled with Tesla’s operational challenges, has led to ongoing fluctuations in their rankings.
