In a statement released on Saturday, the Japanese government expressed its disappointment and frustration with Biden’s comments, which it believes do not reflect the country’s stance on immigration. According to Kirby, the president’s message was meant to highlight the US as a nation of immigrants, saying “it’s in our DNA.” Japan’s government has acknowledged this clarification, stating that it is aware of the US government’s explanation and appreciates the assurance that the comments were not intended to harm the Japan-US relationship.
