Legal expert Norm Eisen revealed that Donald Trump appeared to have fallen asleep during his hush money trial, including a crucial moment when former White House aide Hope Hicks was testifying under oath.
Hicks recounted Trump’s reaction to reports of his alleged affairs with Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, as well as concerns about the Access Hollywood tape damaging his 2016 election chances.
Eisen, who was present during the trial, observed Trump’s apparent sleepiness during Hicks’ testimony, noting his immobility until the lunch break when his eyes suddenly opened.
During her testimony, Hicks shared Trump’s concerns about his wife Melania’s reaction to the affair reports and his instructions to prevent newspapers from being delivered to their residence on that morning.
Trump faces 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records in connection with payments made to Daniels to keep her alleged affair with him secret before the 2016 election.
Prosecutors argue that the payments were unlawfully aimed at influencing the election outcome, not solely to protect his marriage.
Hicks also discussed the Access Hollywood tape, revealing her concerns and the campaign team’s strategy to downplay it by urging denial.
Legal analyst Joey Jackson interpreted Hicks’ testimony as evidence of the campaign’s awareness of the tape’s damaging potential, which could strengthen the prosecution’s case regarding the hush money payments.
He noted that while Trump dismissed the tape as “locker room talk” publicly, his team worked behind the scenes to manage the fallout, suggesting Trump’s direct involvement in covering up potential scandals.
