Actor Jeff Daniels has expressed his hope that voters in the 2024 general election will eventually choose President Biden, citing an ongoing “war on democracy” that requires wise and informed leadership.

During his recent appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to promote his new Netflix drama “A Man in Full,” Daniels criticized former President Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, for his condescending attitude towards Midwestern residents.

Daniels, known for his role in “The Newsroom,” emphasized that Trump “talks down” to people in the Midwest, assuming they are ignorant and easily manipulated. However, Daniels believes that these voters are not as naive as Trump thinks, and they are aware of the lies and manipulation.

He stated, “We’re flyover country, and we’re always, we got a chip on our shoulder about that. And we get it – we’re not as stupid as people, like Trump in particular, think we are. He talks down to us. He talks past us. He lies to us. And but we get it.”

Daniels sees two “wars” currently underway – one within the Republican Party and the other for the very fabric of democracy.

He hopes that voters in the middle, who are often overlooked but hold important political power, will recognize the importance of this moment and vote for Biden in November. Daniels believes that these voters are looking for a leader who embodies wisdom and experience, qualities that Biden possesses.

While recent polling shows Trump leading Biden among registered voters in a hypothetical match-up, with 49 percent to 43 percent according to a CNN survey, Daniels remains cautiously optimistic.

He thinks that voters in states like Michigan will finally choose Biden, not because they are enthusiastic about his candidacy but because they recognize the need for stability and wisdom in these tumultuous times.

As Daniels put it, “I’m going to vote for Biden, even though he’s old, which also translates into wise and wisdom, which we may need right now because the election I really want to vote on is the one in 2028, when people are now running with the future.”
