Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), faced criticism on social media after revealing the GOP’s efforts to prevent Nevada from counting mail-in ballots after Election Day.
The RNC, along with Donald Trump’s campaign and other entities, filed a federal lawsuit against Nevada election officials seeking to halt the counting of mail-in ballots received after Election Day, as permitted under current state law.
During an appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, Lara Trump emphasized the importance of ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election by opposing the counting of ballots after Election Day. However, her statements sparked backlash, with critics questioning the validity of such actions and emphasizing the necessity of counting all votes.
MeidasTouch, a liberal news network, responded to Lara Trump’s remarks with sarcasm, while former tennis star Andy Roddick criticized the notion that an election could be deemed over before all votes are counted. Additionally, Fred Wellman, a U.S. Army combat veteran, raised concerns about potential disenfranchisement of military voters who rely on absentee ballots.
National security attorney Bradley P. Moss expressed disdain for the lawsuit, highlighting its perceived flaws. The RNC’s press release announcing the lawsuit argued that Nevada’s ballot receipt deadline violated federal law and compromised election integrity.
In response, Nevada’s Democratic secretary of state Francisco Aguilar emphasized the need for voter education and criticized the RNC’s focus on litigation. The RNC is currently involved in numerous “fair election” lawsuits across multiple states.
