Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) clarified in a Sunday interview that former President Trump did not mention the possibility of him being his running mate during their recent gathering at Mar-a-Lago.
However, Scott expects Trump to decide on his vice presidential running mate within the next 60 days. The gathering was seen as an audition for the role, with several high-profile Republicans in attendance, including governors, senators, and representatives.
When asked if he thinks he’s on the shortlist, Scott didn’t directly answer, instead emphasizing the importance of choosing a running mate who can help unite and heal the country.
He expressed his excitement about the possibilities for his own future and the futures of children growing up in poverty, citing his own rise from a poor kid in South Carolina to a US Senator.
However, when pressed about Trump’s refusal to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 presidential election, Scott dodged the question repeatedly, stating that the American people will make the decision and implying that Trump will win.
Despite being asked to give a simple “yes or no” answer on whether he would accept the election results, Scott avoided taking a clear stance on the issue.
