Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) believes President Biden should visit college campuses to engage with students despite ongoing pro-Palestinian protests.
Khanna has been to several campuses recently, where he’s seen constructive dialogue between students, including Jewish and Arab Americans, discussing issues like abortion rights, student loans, and the Israel-Hamas war. He thinks Biden should follow suit, as it would benefit the president to connect with young people and understand their concerns.
Khanna doesn’t see the protests as a distraction but rather an “awakening” in Washington, highlighting the need to end the war and address the high number of casualties. He notes that the president’s language has shifted in recent months, and some, including Khanna, want to see consequences for actions taken in the conflict.
Biden has addressed the protests, condemning violent demonstrations while supporting peaceful ones and rejecting hate speech and violence of any kind, including antisemitism and Islamophobia.
Khanna’s call for Biden to engage with campus students may help bridge the gap between the administration and young people, eager to see change and progress on these pressing issues.
