Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) strongly condemned Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake for encouraging her supporters to arm themselves ahead of the election season, warning that such rhetoric could lead to violence and even death.
In a recent interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” Kelly criticized Lake’s comments, in which she told supporters to “strap on a Glock” in preparation for an intense election period. He also denounced former President Trump’s statement suggesting that violence around the election depends on its fairness.
Kelly emphasized that words can have dangerous consequences, primarily when spoken by leaders or those in positions of authority. He urged Lake and others to be mindful of their language and reject incendiary rhetoric. Instead, he advocated for accepting election outcomes and promoting a better direction for the country.
In response, a spokesperson for Lake’s campaign deflected the criticism, attacking Kelly’s opponent, Ruben Gallego, and labeling him a “threat to our country.”
However, Kelly’s concerns about the potential consequences of Lake’s rhetoric remain a pressing issue, highlighting the importance of responsible language in political discourse.
