Former President Trump expressed frustration on his Truth Social platform Tuesday morning about his legal team’s lack of preparation time for the next witness in his hush money trial.
In a post that has since been removed, Trump stated that he had recently been informed of the witness’s identity, leaving his lawyers with insufficient time to adequately prepare.
Trump criticized the judge overseeing the trial, accusing them of bias and conflicts of interest. He claimed that his First Amendment rights were being violated and asserted that legal scholars and experts agreed that the case against him was weak. Trump questioned why the media was not covering the judge’s alleged biases.
However, prosecutors countered Trump’s claims, stating that they had refrained from providing early notice of witnesses due to Trump’s recent social media posts about them. They emphasized that they were not deliberately withholding information from the defense.
This incident followed Trump’s recent charges for violating a gag order imposed by Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the trial. Trump faces multiple counts related to falsifying business records concerning a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016.
Clark Brewster, the attorney representing Daniels, confirmed that his client is expected to testify as a witness in the trial on Tuesday.
