It’s certainly surprising that Donald Trump’s family hasn’t been present to support him during his criminal trial in Manhattan. Typically, family members stand by the defendant to show solidarity, even in uncomfortable situations.
The absence of Melania and Ivanka, especially, could have conveyed a sense of loyalty and support, which could be beneficial considering Trump’s political aspirations.
The MAGA crowd’s lack of support at his trial disappointed Trump. Despite his calls for protests, very few of his followers have shown up, leaving him feeling downcast. Trump has a history of leveraging his supporters for protests, even threatening massive demonstrations if he feels wronged, as he did in 2022.
Instead of his family and supporters, Trump has had to rely on political allies, employees, and right-wing media personalities attending the trial to comfort him. Remarkable figures like Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Florida Senator Rick Scott have appeared, likely aiming to gain favor with Trump.
Despite his own controversies, Rick Scott’s comparison of himself to Trump suggests a strategic move to endear himself to the former president. Scott and other attendees likely understand the importance of defending Trump and singing his praises to secure his favor and advance their ambitions.
In Trump’s world, loyalty and praise are paramount, and those who demonstrate unwavering support are rewarded. As the trial progresses, we can expect more of Trump’s allies to appear, eager to curry favor with him and bolster his spirits.
