The Republican Party threw a party at Mar-a-Lago, a fancy place. Many important Republicans came, including senators and rich people. Donald Trump talked there. He said bad words and said things about Joe Biden and Jack Smith that might not be true.
Two rich people gave $1 million each to help Trump. At the same time, some really rich people, like Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch, met in Hollywood. They talked about supporting Trump and not liking Biden and the Democrats.
These billionaires, who have benefited from massive tax cuts and deregulation, are funding Trump and the Republicans to maintain their power and wealth. They believe they are invincible and that the GOP’s embrace of authoritarianism and oligarchy will keep them safe. However, history shows that fascist leaders, once in power, do not relinquish it easily and often turn on their supporters.
The American middle class has been devastated by Reaganomics, which has moved factories and jobs overseas, destroyed unions, and stolen $51 trillion from working-class people. The GOP is now trying to harness the resulting outrage to tear society apart and rebuild it on foundations of hypermasculinity, racism, and religious bigotry.
The fate of American democracy hangs in the balance, and the November election will determine its future. It will take an overwhelming number of people becoming politically active to stop this authoritarian movement and rescue democracy. Time is running out, as the rights to write, protest, and vote may soon vanish if Trump or someone like him is elected.
