Trump’s Debate Dodge: Attempting to Backtrack on Biden Showdown

The Art of the Weasel: Trump Tries to Squirm Out of Debating Biden

In a bizarre turn of events, Donald Trump has attempted to unilaterally alter the debate schedule he previously agreed to with President Joe Biden.

Just hours after accepting two debates in June and September, Trump took to Truth Social to announce a third debate on October 2, hosted by Fox News’ Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. This sudden move has raised eyebrows, as it appears Trump is trying to renegotiate the terms of the debates without consulting Biden’s campaign.

Trump’s Classic Move: Trying to Wiggle Out of Debating Biden

Trump’s campaign had initially accepted invitations from CNN and ABC News for debates on June 27 and September 10, respectively. Biden’s campaign had also agreed to these terms, but Trump’s latest post suggests he is trying to add an additional debate without mutual consent.

The Biden campaign has accused Trump of “playing games” and trying to create chaos, citing his history of debate-related antics in previous election cycles. “President Biden made his terms clear for two one-on-one debates, and Donald Trump accepted those terms.

No more games. No more chaos, no more debate about debates,” said Jen O’Malley Dillon, Biden’s reelection campaign chair. It remains to be seen whether Trump will follow through on his commitment to debate Biden on June 27 or if he will attempt to wriggle out of the agreement.
