King Salman of Saudi Arabia has been hospitalized with pneumonia, according to the official Saudi Press Agency. The 88-year-old monarch was taken to the Royal Clinic at the al-Salam Palace in Jeddah on Sunday after experiencing a high fever and joint pain. He will undergo antibiotic treatment for the lung inflammation.
This is not the first time King Salman has been hospitalized in recent months. His health issues have led to a gradual transfer of power to his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), who has taken on most of his father’s royal duties.
MBS met with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday to discuss a bilateral agreement between their countries.
Sullivan traveled to Israel later that day, where he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, and other government leaders.
He is also expected to meet with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz, who co-leads the opposition.
The meetings come at a time of heightened tensions in the region, with the International Criminal Court seeking arrest warrants for Israeli leaders and Hamas officials over war crimes and crimes against humanity.
