A recent survey conducted by Marquette University Law School reveals that the public is sharply divided over efforts to remove former President Trump from the 2024 ballot.
The poll found that among those with an opinion on the matter, there is an even split between those who support and oppose the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to remove Trump from the ballot under the 14th Amendment.
This decision was made due to Trump’s involvement in the January 6th insurrection, which some argue disqualifies him from running for office again.
The survey comes as the U.S. Supreme Court considers whether to overturn the Colorado court’s decision, with oral arguments heard earlier this month. The justices appeared hesitant to disqualify Trump, and a decision is expected in the coming weeks.
The poll’s findings highlight the deep divisions within the country, with 50% of those with an opinion supporting the Supreme Court overturning the Colorado court’s decision and 50% opposing it.
The survey also reveals a lack of confidence in the Supreme Court, with only 25% of respondents having a “great deal” of confidence in the institution. Additionally, 31% of respondents were unaware of the issue or lacked enough information to form an opinion.
The poll’s results underscore the intense scrutiny surrounding Trump’s eligibility to run for president again, with the country eagerly awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision. As the GOP front-runner, Trump’s fate on the ballot could remarkably impact the outcome of the 2024 election.
