In the two years since the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Catholic Church has faced a surge of violent attacks, vandalism, and harassment. Despite the gravity of these incidents, the Biden administration has failed to take action, ignoring the pleas of Catholic organizations and lawmakers.
This wave of violence, fueled by anti-Catholic bigotry and abortion extremism, has resulted in 259 documented attacks on Catholic churches, causing millions of dollars in damage and threatening the safety and civil rights of Catholics.
The Department of Justice has selectively enforced the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, prosecuting pro-lifers while turning a blind eye to attacks on churches.
Instead of protecting places of worship, the FBI has targeted faithful Catholics, surveilling them under the guise of “Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical-Traditionalist Catholic Ideology.” This neglect has emboldened extremists, with 30 attacks already reported in 2024.
As the issue gains urgency in this election year, with abortion-related ballot measures in multiple states, Catholic churches face intimidation and vandalism. The Biden administration’s inaction undermines its claims of commitment to democracy and equal justice.
To demonstrate its dedication to protecting the rights of all citizens, the administration must deploy the full force of federal law enforcement to safeguard Catholic churches and ensure their right to participate in the public square.
