Former NASCAR Driver and Son Charged in January 6 Capitol Attack

Tighe Scott, a former NASCAR driver, and his son Jarret Scott were arrested on Wednesday and face multiple felony and misdemeanor charges for their alleged role in the January 6, 2021, assault on the United States Capitol.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington D.C. made the announcement, revealing the latest breakthrough in the ongoing probe into the violent uprising that rocked the capital.

Ex-NASCAR Driver and Son Arrested

According to the charging documents, Tighe Scott, 75, and Jarret Scott, 48, were identified through witness testimony and video footage. The footage allegedly shows Tighe Scott striking riot shields and attempting to wrestle a shield away from an officer, while Jarret Scott is seen brandishing a golf club and pushing against police shields.

The Scotts were arrested alongside another father-son duo, Scott Alex Slater Jr. and Scott Slater Sr., who were also identified through video footage. The four men are accused of entering restricted grounds, physically engaging with officers, and verbally harassing them. The incident escalated when Slater Jr. allegedly threw a flagpole and an “AREA CLOSED” sign at the officers, striking one of them.

The arrests are the latest development in the ongoing investigation into the January 6th riot, which has resulted in over 1,424 individuals being charged across nearly every state.

More than 500 of those charged have been accused of assaulting or impeding law enforcement officers. The investigation and prosecutions demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to holding accountable those responsible for the violent attack on the Capitol.
