A tragic incident occurred in western Switzerland on Monday, where a teenager from America fell to her death while hiking with a friend’s family. The accident happened on the “Gorges Mystérieuses” trail in the Valais district. The 16-year-old girl plummeted approximately 100 meters, or about 328 feet, down an embankment during the hike.
Rescue efforts were promptly initiated, involving two helicopters, to retrieve the teen’s body, which was found in the riverbed of the Le Trient River near the French border. The father of the family, who attempted to rescue the girl, became stranded on a rock and had to be evacuated by rescue workers. Fortunately, he was not injured during the incident.
The cause of the teen’s fall remains unknown and is currently under investigation by the public prosecutor’s office.
