The Israeli military was criticized for tying an injured Palestinian man to the hood of a military vehicle during an operation in the West Bank. Video shows the man slumped on the vehicle’s hood as it drove through Jenin, passing by Red Crescent ambulances.

The Red Crescent said Israeli forces stopped their crews from giving the man first aid before detaining him and later allowing him to go to a hospital. The man’s condition and identity are not known.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged that their forces violated orders and standard operating procedures during the incident. In response to the incident, which occurred during counterterrorism operations in the Wadi Burqin area, the IDF stated that the conduct did not align with the IDF’s values and announced an investigation.

The military noted that the man was a suspect injured during an exchange of fire and was later handed over to the Red Crescent for medical treatment.

The incident is part of a broader escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank, which has intensified since Israel began its war against Hamas in Gaza following Hamas’s deadly attacks on Israel in October.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), over 500 Palestinians, including more than 100 children, have been killed in the West Bank since October 7, with nearly three-quarters of these fatalities occurring during Israeli military operations.

In addition to military raids, there has been a rise in violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians. The West Bank and East Jerusalem are home to more than 700,000 Jewish settlers living in settlements deemed illegal under international law. These settlements are widely viewed as significant barriers to achieving a two-state solution.

Amidst the ongoing conflict, the Biden administration recently imposed sanctions on the Israeli group Tzav 9 for disrupting humanitarian convoys to Gaza. This action is part of broader efforts under an executive order targeting those responsible for violence in the West Bank, highlighting the international community’s concern over the escalating situation.
