T.I., the 43-year-old rapper born Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., encountered legal trouble due to mistaken identity. On Sunday, August 4, he was arrested at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport after law enforcement confused him with another individual named Clifford Harris.
This other Clifford Harris had an outstanding arrest warrant in Baltimore, Maryland, for alleged violent behavior, stalking, and a potential gun-related incident.
Following his arrest, T.I. was taken to Clayton County Jail, and an automatic extradition hearing was triggered because the warrant was from another state. However, T.I.’s attorney, Steve Sadow, intervened promptly.
Within two hours of the arrest, Sadow managed to contact someone at the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, resulting in T.I.’s release. The judge assigned to the case subsequently reviewed and dismissed the extradition order, recognizing the mix-up.

The physical differences between the two Clifford Harrises likely contributed to resolving the confusion. The Clifford Harris wanted in Maryland reportedly weighs 205 pounds, whereas T.I. weighs 165 pounds. This discrepancy in physical description helped clarify that the authorities had the wrong man.
T.I., a prominent figure in Atlanta’s music scene and one of the pioneers of trap music maintains strong ties to the city. He owns the Trap City Cafe, a restaurant he promoted on Instagram the same day he was mistakenly arrested. T.I.’s connection to Atlanta extends beyond music, illustrating his deep-rooted presence in the community.
This incident isn’t T.I.’s first brush with the law. In 2021, he was arrested in Amsterdam following a minor accident with a police vehicle, spending only 25 minutes in custody.
Additionally, in 2018, he faced charges of misdemeanor simple assault, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness after a dispute with a security guard at his gated community. Despite these past incidents, the recent mistaken identity case highlights the complexities of law enforcement encounters for public figures.
