As the days go by, the forces that govern our world seem to grow more ominous, making what was once “unthinkable” appear almost “inevitable.” This shift has been strikingly clear to me.
Observing politics and media in Europe, I began noticing alarming calls from certain left-wing voices advocating for Elon Musk’s arrest and the shutdown of his social media platform, X. At first, I thought it was hyperbole, but they are quite serious. Musk and X have become their prime targets.
Before rushing into why, I must ask: why has censorship become such a darling cause for many on the left? There was a time when Democrats and liberals championed free speech, but now it seems the opposite is true.
This disturbing trend is reminiscent of totalitarian regimes, where opposition voices were silenced. Ironically, those who once decried such actions now wield censorship as a tool for their own goals.
The reason for the uproar against Musk stems from his response to the tragic stabbing of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed event in Southport, England. His remarks on immigration and justice triggered an intense backlash.
The left-leaning media and authorities blamed “right-wing” activists on social media for fueling unrest with alleged misinformation, yet some wonder if the lack of transparency by authorities incited speculation.
Musk’s post suggesting a “civil war” in the UK further enraged critics. Rather than addressing citizens’ concerns over immigration, some officials instead attacked Musk.
The Guardian even accused Musk of “inciting violence” in the UK, a prelude, they claim, to causing chaos in the U.S. This narrative distracts from government failures and frames Musk as a scapegoat.
While Musk continues raising difficult questions, left-wing authorities and media appear more determined to stifle dissent than protect their people.
