On Wednesday, a United Airlines flight experienced severe turbulence over Louisiana, resulting in injuries to seven people. The turbulence occurred while the seatbelt sign was activated on United Flight 1196, a Boeing 737-900 en route from Cancun, Mexico, to Chicago. The flight was diverted to Tennessee for an emergency landing due to the turbulence.
The plane landed safely at Memphis International Airport at approximately 2:50 p.m. local time, with a total of 179 passengers and crew on board. Paramedics were on hand to assist upon arrival, transporting one individual to the hospital in non-critical condition, while six others sustained minor injuries.
United Airlines expressed gratitude to the crew for their efforts in managing the situation and ensuring the safety of everyone on board. The airline indicated that the flight was expected to continue its journey to Chicago O’Hare International Airport later that evening.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the severe turbulence.
