The death of actor John Amos has sparked a public family dispute, with his relatives accusing his son, Kelly Christopher Amos (K.C.), of isolating him from loved ones in his final years. According to a statement from Amos’ family, K.C., along with two other individuals, Eugene Brummet and Belinda Foster, allegedly kept the actor away from his family and friends over the last year of his life.
Despite the family’s efforts to stay in contact, they claim that K.C. restricted access to John, controlling his communications and severing ties with key relatives, including his daughter Shannon Amos and brother Leslie “Syl” Franklin.
John’s family also contends that the image K.C. presented on social media, portraying a close father-son relationship, was far from the truth. They allege that K.C. manipulated his father, who was suffering from dementia, to create a false narrative for public consumption.
The family expressed deep concern over potential neglect, believing John may have been isolated during his final days. This concern was heightened by troubling photos sent by neighbors and a medical professional, leading them to fear that John’s well-being had been compromised.
Compounding the situation, John’s family was alarmed to learn about his death through media reports, weeks after he passed away in August. K.C. was listed as the person who informed authorities of John’s death and, disturbingly, he was also responsible for arranging John’s cremation just nine days later.
The family is questioning why they were not notified by the coroner or medical professionals and suspects that K.C. made decisions about the cremation without consulting them. They are particularly concerned that K.C. may have taken these steps to potentially alter John’s will or access his life insurance benefits.
The family also raised red flags about K.C.’s personal history, including struggles with addiction and mental health issues, as well as previous arrests. These factors have added to their suspicions that K.C. may have acted with ulterior motives in his handling of his father’s death.
They are worried that his actions might have been aimed at benefiting financially from John’s estate or insurance policies, and the lack of transparency has left them feeling betrayed and anxious about the situation.
In light of these allegations, John’s family has expressed feeling “saddened and outraged,” with some even suggesting the possibility of foul play. Despite attempts to reach out to both K.C. and Belinda Foster for comment, the family has received no response.
As the situation develops, unanswered questions about John Amos’ final days continue to hang over the family, leaving them grappling with both grief and suspicion regarding the actions of those closest to him.
