On Saturday, Vice President Kamala Harris publicly shared a summary of her medical records, provided by her White House physician, Dr. Joshua Simmons. According to Simmons, Harris is a healthy 59-year-old woman with a medical history that includes seasonal allergies and urticaria, commonly known as hives.
The physician noted that Harris has been managing her seasonal allergies with over-the-counter medications and has undergone allergen immunotherapy for her hives over the past three years. Importantly, the report indicated that she has never experienced severe allergic reactions like angioedema or anaphylaxis.
Dr. Simmons praised Harris’s overall health, highlighting her commitment to a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and regular exercise, which consists of daily aerobics and core strength training. He noted her moderate alcohol consumption and confirmed that she does not use tobacco products.
Simmons affirmed that Harris possesses the physical and mental resilience necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the presidency, including those of Chief Executive, Head of State, and Commander in Chief.
The vice president’s last medical examination, conducted in April, was described as “unremarkable,” with all routine tests and bloodwork returning normal results. However, the report did mention mild sun damage to her skin in areas exposed to sunlight.
The public release of Harris’s medical records marks the first time her health information has been disclosed, a practice typically followed by presidential candidates and incumbents who undergo annual physicals.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump has yet to release his medical records despite his previous pledge to do so. A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign criticized Harris’s health disclosures and pointed to Trump’s vigorous campaign schedule, claiming he has maintained an exceptional pace compared to Harris.
They emphasized that Trump has released various health updates, including reports from Dr. Ronny Jackson, which assert that he is in excellent health and capable of serving as Commander in Chief.
As the political climate evolves, the Harris campaign is focusing on age-related concerns regarding Trump, particularly in light of President Joe Biden’s age, which has been a contentious topic among voters.
This month, Harris released an ad questioning Trump’s age and potential incapacitation, using footage that appears to show him struggling to articulate his words. This strategic approach mirrors Trump’s earlier attacks on Biden, with Harris seeking to turn the narrative back on Trump as the campaign intensifies.
