Kamala Harris Criticizes Trump’s Comments on Protecting Women Reflecting on Women’s Autonomy

Vice President Kamala Harris criticized former President Donald Trump’s recent comments about protecting women “whether they like it or not,” stating that this attitude reflects his long-standing tendency to undermine women’s autonomy.

In an exclusive interview, Harris emphasized that Trump’s remark demonstrates a disregard for women’s right to make choices about their own bodies and lives. She added that most Americans believe women are capable of making their own decisions and should not be dictated to by Trump or any government figure.

The Trump campaign initially did not respond to Harris’ remarks. Trump had made the comment during a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he claimed he would protect women regardless of their feelings on the matter.

This statement prompted a backlash, as it suggested a lack of respect for women’s preferences or consent. In response, Trump’s campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt argued that Trump’s comments were taken out of context, claiming he was discussing protection against criminal threats from illegal immigrants and not making a general statement about women’s autonomy.

Businessman and Harris supporter Mark Cuban also weighed in, criticizing Trump’s treatment of women. Cuban argued that Trump is uncomfortable around strong, intelligent women, suggesting that he avoids being challenged by them.

Cuban’s comments sparked further controversy, with Trump responding that he surrounds himself with strong women and criticizing Cuban’s character. This exchange added another layer to the broader debate over Trump’s approach to women and the impact of his comments on his public image.

Meanwhile, Harris addressed President Joe Biden’s recent remarks, where he referred to certain rhetoric as “garbage.” Clarifying Biden’s comment, Harris said she does not believe in criticizing people based on who they vote for, suggesting that Biden’s intent was likely to criticize divisive rhetoric rather than Trump supporters themselves. She also contrasted Trump’s divisive approach with Biden’s focus on unity, expressing that Americans are tired of Trump’s polarizing tactics.

Harris’ remarks come as the 2024 election approaches, with polls showing a close race. She reflected on her late mother’s likely advice to “just go beat him” in the final days before Election Day, highlighting the personal drive and determination fueling her campaign efforts. Harris is scheduled to continue her campaign trail in Nevada following her rally in Phoenix.
