In a statement to AL.com, Mardis expressed frustration, noting that a small group of individuals irresponsibly began firing, endangering many in attendance. In response to the traumatic event, Tuskegee University is offering counseling services to its students. The university made arrangements to have counselors available on Monday at the campus chapel throughout the day.
