The woman claims that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs sexually assaulted her in 2000 when she was 13, at an after-party for the MTV Music Awards. However, Spiro presented evidence that he believes proves the woman’s account is not only false but also “provably, demonstrably false.” According to Spiro, the woman’s story is riddled with inconsistencies, particularly regarding the timeline and location of the alleged assault.
One of the key issues with the woman’s claim is her description of the setting. She stated that the assault took place at a “large white residence with a U-shaped driveway,” but photos show both Jay-Z and Combs at a nightclub following the awards show, not at a house party. Spiro also pointed out that the timeline of the woman’s story is implausible.
She claimed to have traveled from Rochester to the event, a trip that would have taken about five hours, but there is no evidence supporting this. Additionally, she mentioned watching the VMAs on a jumbotron, but Spiro noted that no such jumbotron existed at the event in 2000, further discrediting her account.

The woman’s narrative also includes details that seem difficult to verify. She claims to have snuck out of her house, watched the VMAs on a jumbotron, befriended a limousine driver, and then been driven to the house where the alleged assault occurred. After the incident, she says she fled and called her father to pick her up from a nearby gas station. Spiro emphasized that the logistical challenges of such a trip, combined with the lack of supporting evidence, made her story highly unlikely.
This legal battle comes amid multiple sexual assault lawsuits against Sean Combs, who is currently in custody and facing federal sex trafficking charges. Initially, the woman sued Combs but later amended her complaint to include Jay-Z, accusing him of participating in the assault. These lawsuits were filed just before the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which allowed sexual abuse victims to file civil suits regardless of the statute of limitations.
Jay-Z had previously filed a lawsuit against the woman’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, alleging that Buzbee attempted to blackmail him by threatening to publicly release the rape accusation unless a settlement was reached. Buzbee, however, denied the blackmail claim, stating that his letter was intended to initiate a confidential mediation. In response to the ongoing litigation, Buzbee affirmed the woman’s stance, saying she had been thoroughly vetted by his team of attorneys and remained firm in her allegations. He stated that the legal system would ultimately resolve the factual disagreements surrounding the case.
