An armed man, believed to be a security guard at the Dior Boutique in San Francisco’s Union Square, was shot and killed by police early Friday morning after allegedly causing multiple hit-and-runs in the area. The incident began Thursday evening when the San Francisco Police Department received reports about a person driving erratically on the sidewalk near Kearny and Post Streets. The driver was reportedly chasing someone on an electric bicycle at a high rate of speed while driving on the sidewalk.

The driver allegedly struck two pedestrians, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, who were leaving a Chipotle restaurant. The teenagers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital. Following the incident, the driver continued to chase the bicyclist, eventually hitting the rear of the bike near Sutter and Kearny streets before fleeing the scene.

The individual on the bike managed to escape and ran down Sutter Street. Authorities have been unable to locate the cyclist, and the hit-and-run was considered an aggravated assault.

Police were able to locate the suspect early the next morning at around 1:35 a.m. outside the Dior store, where he was believed to be working as a security guard. Officers attempted to take the man into custody, but he was shot after police were unable to apprehend him. He was later taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting to determine what led to the use of force.

The Dior Boutique has recently enhanced its security following a smash-and-grab burglary that occurred last year. During that incident, thieves rammed a car into the store, a tactic that has been increasingly common in the Bay Area. In response, the boutique has installed additional security measures, including planters and bollards, around the building to prevent such incidents in the future.
