Trump Vows to Overhaul DOJ and FBI, Targeting Alleged Corruption and Political Bias

Former President Donald Trump outlined his vision for the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in a speech that strongly resembled a political rally. Speaking for about an hour, Trump reiterated his grievances against the agencies, particularly criticizing career officials and his predecessor, President Joe Biden.

He also touched on various unrelated topics, such as the 2024 election, inflation, and even legendary basketball coach Bob Knight. His remarks underscored his belief that law enforcement agencies should align with his political agenda rather than operate independently, as past presidents have traditionally preferred.

Trump Blasts DOJ and FBI, Promises Accountability for Alleged Misconduct and Political Bias

Trump harshly criticized the DOJ and FBI, accusing them of misconduct and political bias. He pledged to hold them accountable for what he called past abuses, referencing investigations into his administration and campaign. He alleged that these agencies “spied on my campaign” and engaged in disinformation operations, further claiming that they “broke the law on a colossal scale.”

Trump’s speech was attended by key allies, including former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who had been convicted of lying to the FBI but was later pardoned by Trump, as well as Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Speaking inside the DOJ building, Trump referenced former special counsel Jack Smith, who had filed criminal charges against him in 2023 related to the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack and classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate. However, those charges were later dropped after Trump was re-elected in 2024.

On the day he returned to office, Trump issued pardons to individuals convicted for their roles in the Capitol attack, referring to them as “political prisoners” who had been “grossly mistreated.” These actions signaled his intent to reshape the justice system according to his own perspective.

Trump Asserts Control Over Law Enforcement, Vows to Remove “Corrupt Forces” in Government

Trump emphasized his control over the country’s law enforcement, declaring himself the “chief law enforcement officer” of the United States. He placed two staunch allies in key positions: Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel. Bondi, a longtime Trump supporter, introduced him at the event, reinforcing his message of loyalty and alignment within the administration.

Standing beside 180 kilos of fake fentanyl marked as “DEA evidence,” Trump sought to portray himself as a strong leader in law enforcement, despite his broader focus on reshaping the DOJ and FBI.

Trump concluded his speech by vowing to remove what he called “rogue actors and corrupt forces” from government institutions. He promised to expose their alleged crimes and misconduct, declaring that his efforts would be “legendary.”

His remarks suggested that his administration would aggressively pursue those he perceives as political enemies within federal agencies. By framing his leadership as a mission to restore justice, Trump made it clear that he envisions a DOJ and FBI that align closely with his political objectives rather than functioning independently.
