“Vikings,” the History Channel Original, is a historical drama television series. Created and written by Michael Hirst, the show premiered on March 3, 2013, in Canada. The story was inspired by the tales of Norsemen of early medieval Scandinavia and was filmed in Ireland. The story is referred from 13th-century sagas, which could even be fictional. This is due to the fact that legendary sagas were based on the Norse oral tradition. And they were written down about 200 to 400 years after the events they describe. The series begins in 793 AD which is marked by the Lindisfarne raid.
Background of Vikings
“Vikings” is inspired and broadly focuses on the sagas of Viking Chieftain, Ragnar Lothbrok. He was one of the best known legendary Norse heroes. The show depicts the story of a farmer, Ragnar who rose to fame by conducting successful raids into England. Through his journey and the support of his family and fellow warriors, he became a Scandinavian King. In the later seasons, the series follows the journeys of his sons and their ventures in England, Scandinavia, and the Mediterranean.
On December 4, 2019, the sixth and final installment of the show premiered on History Channel in Canada. This season has been divided into two parts of 20 episodes each. After airing part 1, part 2 of the season has dropped collectively on 30th December 2020. It has been aired in the UK and USA before its release on the History Channel.
The story now revolves around the four sons of Ragnar- Bjorn Ironside, Ivar the Boneless, Ubbe and Hvitserk. They are not a happy family as one could tell from the sibling civil-war. This war has been driving the plot of the past two seasons. And by the start of season 6, part 2 things are looking very bleak.
