Kunle Afolayan was born in the Ebute metta area of Lagos State on 30th September 1974. The gentleman is just a few months under 47 years of age. He was raised in Lagos. He is an Economics graduate and holds a Diploma in Digital Film Production from the prestigious New York Film Academy, a qualification he obtained in 2005.
Interestingly, he is of the Igbomina tribe, a small ethnic group within the Yoruba Nation. Consequently, Igbomina people are direct descendants of the second son Oduduwa, Orangun Fagbamila Ajagunnla. On the family front. Kunle Afolayan is a married man, but he and his wife seem to face some challenges as they are currently separated. As a result, Kunle Afolayan’s wife, Tolu Afolayan, now lives independently and has four kids with the filmmaker. Therefore, their marriage hit the rocks in 2019, with allegations of cheating being the root cause of this marital crisis.

Kunle completed his undergraduate degree and, like most other young persons, raced into the labor market and was absorbed into the banking sector. However, the love for acting and movies was just too strong. The bobbling young man would soon switch his focus to the film industry. And just like his father, late Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan (aka Ade Love), Kunle started with acting. Kunle soon found a niche in movie directing and production. This was after sharpening his teeth with the New York Film Academy Digital Film making course in 2005.
