A new poll indicates that many Americans believe the recent failed assassination attempt on former President Trump has not altered his behavior, according to Yahoo News.
The Yahoo News/YouGov poll, released Wednesday, reveals that 44 percent of respondents feel the shooting has not changed Trump at all. Only 28 percent think the attempt on his life has made him “better,” while 7 percent believe it has changed him “for the worse,” Yahoo reports.
This poll comes just over two weeks after a gunman fired shots during a Trump rally near Pittsburgh, grazing Trump’s ear with a bullet. Two attendees were injured, and the shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks and another rallygoer were killed.

On Wednesday, Trump seemed to reject suggestions that the shooting had made him more “nice.” In the wake of the incident, both Republicans and Democrats called for a reduction in political rhetoric.
During a rally in North Carolina, Trump indicated he would not soften his attacks on Vice President Harris, who was endorsed by President Biden after his withdrawal from the race. “I was supposed to be nice.
They say something happened to me when I got shot. I became nice,” Trump said. “And when you’re dealing with these people, they’re very dangerous people, you can’t be too nice.” He added, “So if you don’t mind, I’m not going to be nice. Is that OK?”
Yahoo News highlighted that the poll was mostly conducted before Biden announced on Sunday that he would not seek reelection. The survey also showed Harris and Trump polling neck-and-neck, each with 46 percent support from respondents.
About 4 percent were unsure, and 3 percent said they would not vote if Harris and Trump were the only options. The poll was conducted online among 1,723 U.S. adults from July 19-22, with a margin of error of 2.8 percentage points.
