A video released on Friday shows former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. In the video, Obama expressed his and Michelle’s strong support: “Michelle and I are thrilled to endorse you and will do everything possible to help you through this election and into the Oval Office.”
Harris, in response, conveyed her deep appreciation for their backing and long-standing friendship. She said, “Barack, Michelle, this means a lot to me. Doug and I are excited to work with you both, hit the campaign trail, and, most importantly, I want you to know how much your words and friendship mean to me.

Thank you both so much. And we’re going to enjoy this journey, aren’t we?” Michelle Obama also shared her pride in Harris and her anticipation for a historic election. “Kamala, I am so proud of you. This election is going to be historic,” she remarked.
The Obamas’ joint statement praised Harris for her qualifications and character, stating, “Kamala has more than an impressive resume; she possesses the vision, character, and strength needed for this crucial moment. We firmly believe she has what it takes to win and serve the American people.”
The statement also highlighted Harris as a beacon of hope in a critical time. While Obama initially refrained from endorsing Harris immediately after President Joe Biden announced his decision not to seek reelection, he later confirmed his support, noting the importance of a fair nomination process for the Democratic Party.
As Democrats accelerate their nomination process, they adopted new rules on Wednesday, with voting for Harris’s official nomination expected to begin on August 1.
The Democratic convention will be held in Chicago from August 19 to 22, where ceremonial votes for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, along with a vote on the party platform, will take place. Harris is currently in the process of selecting a running mate, with an announcement expected before August 7.
