On Sunday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) asserted that the Supreme Court is “actively undermining” U.S. democracy. Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Warren mentioned that she and her colleagues are formulating reforms for the Supreme Court, which include considering term limits and adding more justices.
She mirrored President Biden’s calls for Supreme Court reform during his final six months in office. Warren praised Biden, stating, “Here’s a man who has been a transformative president.

He’s accomplished an enormous amount, yet he has stepped aside and passed the torch to Kamala Harris.” She emphasized that Biden’s actions were driven by patriotism and the necessity to heal the nation and reform the Supreme Court.
She criticized the current Supreme Court, saying, “We have a Supreme Court that has basically jumped the guardrails, granting excessive power to the president and limiting Congress’s authority to empower agencies. So, we’ve got a Supreme Court that is actively undermining our democracy.”
In a national address on Wednesday, Biden outlined his plans for his remaining months in office, days after announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race. He emphasized the need for Supreme Court reform as a critical priority.
Biden is reportedly considering proposals for implementing term limits for justices and enforcing an ethics code. These calls for reform have intensified after reports revealed Justice Clarence Thomas accepted lavish gifts from a conservative donor.
Warren highlighted the importance of Supreme Court reform for voters, saying, “I think Joe Biden will continue to draw attention to this issue over the next six months, reminding Americans that the Supreme Court is on the ballot. This is a compelling reason to vote for Kamala Harris and to support Democrats in both the Senate and the House.”
