Vice President Harris’s campaign delivered a stinging birthday message to Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), who was recently chosen as former President Trump’s running mate.
“At ages 78 and 40, Trump and his sidekick—widely regarded as the most unpopular VP pick in American history—are pushing an agenda that threatens to undo our progress, setting the country back and leaving future generations with fewer freedoms,” the campaign wrote Friday night on social platform X.
Harris’s team further accused voters of rejecting Project 2025, linking the conservative agenda to both Vance and Trump, despite Trump’s denial of involvement. The post also accused the duo of trying to strip away freedoms, burden the middle class with higher costs, and stoke division.
“While we wish JD a happy 40th, the American people will ensure his 41st birthday is celebrated far from the White House,” the campaign continued. Trump officially announced Vance as his running mate at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last month, but Vance’s start has been bumpy, with some Republicans questioning Trump’s choice.
Vance has faced backlash for comments about “childless cat ladies” and his belief that parents should have more influence in democracy. The Harris campaign suggested that Vance is already proving to be a problematic choice and hinted that Trump might regret his decision.
Vance, in turn, has criticized Harris, claiming she’s “a million times worse” than Biden and expressing disappointment over Biden’s withdrawal from the race, as he had looked forward to debating him. Despite Vance’s attempts to counterattack, the Harris campaign and other Democrats are capitalizing on his unpopularity, labeling Trump and Vance as “weird.”
In response, Vance’s spokesperson, William Martin, slammed Harris’s team for their birthday message. He dismissed the message as “cringe,” while criticizing Harris for her “incompetence” and accusing her of hiding from media scrutiny. Martin asserted that the American public will reject her “radicalism” in November.
