Former President Jimmy Carter has shared his desire to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the forthcoming election. With his 100th birthday approaching, Carter is primarily focused on the prospect of defeating former President Trump.
Carter conveyed to his son Chip, as relayed by his grandson Jason Carter to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that his primary goal is to be alive to cast his vote for Harris.
As Carter nears his centennial on October 1, he continues to contend with health challenges, having entered hospice care in February 2023 and outliving his wife, Rosalynn, who died last November.
Jason Carter noted that his grandfather has recently been more engaged and aware of political developments and global issues like the conflict in Gaza. This comes after a public update in June that revealed Carter’s daily wakefulness was diminishing.
When asked if reaching his 100th birthday was his main concern, Carter clarified that his main objective is to vote for Harris, rather than simply reaching the century milestone. Early voting in Georgia is set to begin on October 15, allowing Carter a brief window post-birthday to fulfill his voting intention.
Harris secured her position as the Democratic nominee on Friday through a virtual roll call, with Democrats rallying behind her after President Biden’s withdrawal from the race. This support has led to a surge in donations and enthusiasm for her historic candidacy.
