Olivia Troye, once a national security adviser to Mike Pence, urged her former boss on Sunday to back Vice President Harris’s presidential bid, labeling it as the morally correct action.
Troye, who has been an outspoken Republican critic of the Trump administration since she left the White House in 2020, shared her perspective on MSNBC with Alex Witt. She mentioned that it would be “incredible” if Pence chose to support Harris, who has recently emerged as the Democratic presidential nominee.
Publicly appealing to Pence, Troye encouraged him to once again exhibit the courage he had shown before, reminding him of the gravity of the upcoming election. She emphasized that Pence’s support could be pivotal for conservative voters across the nation.
Troye is now part of the Harris campaign’s newly established “Republicans for Harris” coalition, which includes over 25 Republicans. In launching the group on Sunday, Troye underscored that the stakes of this election are too high to allow partisan differences to endanger fundamental freedoms and the Constitution.
She stressed that this election is about defending democracy and the individual rights the Republican Party has traditionally supported, which Harris is now advocating for. The group “Republicans for Harris” seeks to engage GOP supporters to rally behind Harris, functioning as a “campaign within a campaign.”
The group plans to kick off its efforts in crucial battleground states like Arizona, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Pence, who ended his presidential campaign last year, previously declined to support Trump’s reelection, citing their fractured relationship after the 2020 election. He has been clear about his refusal to overturn the 2020 election results, which has increasingly distanced him from the GOP base. While he acknowledged Biden’s endorsement of Harris, Pence has yet to publicly discuss Harris herself.
