Allison Reese, a comedian, has captured millions online with her impression of Vice President Harris, who recently gained national attention after President Biden endorsed her as his successor following his withdrawal from the race.
Reese began perfecting her Harris impression in 2019, and her videos have gone viral over the years for their accurate depiction of Harris’s speech patterns and laugh.
In her skits, Reese often dons a wig, suits, and pearls to emulate Harris, referencing iconic moments such as the “We did it Joe” call, where Harris celebrated Biden’s 2020 election win.
Reese shared with Reuters that capturing Harris’s laugh was particularly challenging, highlighting the learning curve she encountered. “Nailing her laugh was tough, and adjusting to her speech cadence and vocal fry made me breathless initially,” she explained. “I had to practice breath control to get it right.”
Following Biden’s endorsement of Harris, Reese gained 40,000 new TikTok followers, bringing her total to over 254,000, and accumulated more than 10 million likes on her videos.
Reese expressed surprise at the recent surge in support. “I was stunned, like a cartoon character with my jaw dropped for a few minutes,” she said. “Now, it’s time to create more content.” Harris’s distinct laugh and phrases have sparked a wave of social media memes, with the Harris campaign and Democrats embracing the online buzz.
Meanwhile, Harris addressed criticism of her laugh during an interview on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” attributing it to her family’s influence. She emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself despite others’ perceptions.
Additionally, it was reported last week that actress Maya Rudolph will reprise her role as Harris on “Saturday Night Live” in light of Harris’s new presidential bid.
