CBS Poll Indicates Tight Race Between Trump and Harris in Battleground States and Nationally

Presidential Aspirants, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump

A recent CBS News poll reveals that former President Trump and Vice President Harris are equally matched in critical battleground states, underscoring Harris’s growing support among Democrats as their newly confirmed nominee.

According to the CBS News/YouGov survey, Harris is narrowly ahead of Trump by 1 point in national polling, a serious improvement for Democrats compared to the performance of President Biden. In battleground states, both candidates are tied with 50 percent support. Nationally, Harris edges Trump by 50 to 49 percent, and her lead expands to 2 points when third-party candidates are factored in.

Harris’s campaign has been met with enthusiasm from Democrats, marked by record-breaking fundraising and large, engaged crowds. This surge in support is reflected in polling, with a higher percentage of Democrats expressing a firm commitment to vote compared to when Biden was the nominee.

Currently, 85 percent of Democrats and 88 percent of Republicans indicate they will vote, an increase from 81 percent of Democrats and 90 percent of Republicans last month. Harris’s appeal to Black voters, a crucial demographic, has also strengthened, with 74 percent now saying they will “definitely” vote, up from 58 percent under Biden’s candidacy.

The vice president’s support among Black voters stands at 81 percent, compared to 73 percent for Biden. Additionally, Harris has widened the gender gap, attracting 54 percent of female voters, while Trump holds 54 percent of male support.

In key battleground states, Harris and Trump are evenly matched in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. Trump leads by 1 point in Wisconsin and 3 points in Georgia and North Carolina, while Harris has a 2-point lead in Nevada.

The CBS News/YouGov poll, conducted from July 30 to August 2, surveyed around 3,100 registered voters with a margin of error of 2.1 percent.
