Former President Trump stated on Wednesday that he anticipates debating Vice President Harris soon, hinting at a possible agreement after he withdrew from a scheduled debate with ABC News.
“I hear she’s not very pleasant, but she’s also not a strong debater,” Trump remarked during an appearance on Fox News’s “Fox and Friends.” “But we’ll see because it looks like I’ll be debating her soon.” He added that the debate’s announcement is imminent and expressed his preference for Fox to host the event.
Trump also mentioned that networks like NBC and CBS are vying to host the debate.
“I want to debate her. The nation must have this debate,” Trump said, emphasizing his support for Fox as the venue, though noting that both parties need to agree on the platform.
Earlier, Trump had stated that his commitment to a September 10th debate on ABC News was “terminated.” He initially agreed to debate President Biden, but with Biden stepping down from the race and Harris taking his place, Trump withdrew.
The former president also referenced ongoing legal action against ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos but had initially accepted ABC as a host despite the lawsuit.
Instead, Trump expressed willingness to participate in a September 4th debate in Pennsylvania, hosted by Fox News and featuring a live audience. In response, Harris’s team criticized Trump for backing out of the ABC News debate, stating that she plans to appear on the network regardless of his attendance.
Trump’s stance on debating Harris has varied in recent weeks, initially affirming he would “definitely” debate her, but later suggesting he might have reasons to avoid it.
