Kellyanne Conway, a former senior counselor to Donald Trump, expressed relief on social media, emphasizing her belief that Walz’s selection is less threatening compared to Shapiro.

Harris had previously interviewed Walz, Shapiro, and Senator Mark Kelly, with Kelly seen as a potentially strong choice due to his background in a swing state. However, Walz’s selection surprised some Republicans, who believed Shapiro could have been more beneficial for Harris’s campaign in Pennsylvania.
Sean Spicer, a former Trump press secretary, noted that the choice might affect Harris more remarkably due to the condensed timeline and lack of a competitive primary. Trump campaign officials quickly targeted Walz’s progressive policies and past controversies.
Despite criticisms, Walz’s appeal in the Midwest and his strong communication skills present challenges for Republicans. Former Obama spokesperson Eric Schultz praised Walz for his broad appeal and collaborative record, while Trump’s former chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, acknowledged that Walz’s likable personality could be advantageous in appealing to undecided voters.
